Recap: 6.26.23 NuHart Community Meeting

On June 26, 2023 North Brooklyn Neighbors cohosted a community meeting with Assembly Member Emily Gallagher, State Senator Kristen Gonzalez, Council Member Lincoln Restler, Congresswoman Nydia Velázquez, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC), the New York City Office of Environmental Remediation (OER), the New York State Department of Health (DOH) and Madison Realty Capital (MRC).

After introductions by NBN and the elected officials, there was a presentation from Madison Realty Capital (~7:55). After a recap of the project, the audience was informed that the tent is being moved to the Superfund portion of the site in anticipation of excavation on site. The Q&A portion of the meeting began (~13:57) and continues for the remainder of the meeting. Topics covered include:

• Details on the removal of contaminated material from the NuHart site
• Noises coming from the site
• An analysis of the remediation plan by North Brooklyn Neighbors Technical Assistance Grantee, Dr. Alan Rabideau.
• The end of 421A
• Development meeting organized by elected officials
• Desire of neighbors to get a community health assessment
• Exposure limits
