Recap: 10.29.24 NuHart Community Meeting
On October 29, 2024 North Brooklyn Neighbors hosted a community meeting and were joined by the offices of Assembly Member Emily Gallagher, State Senator Kristen Gonzalez, Council Member Lincoln Restler, Congresswoman Nydia Velázquez, as well as the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC), the New York State Department of Health (DOH) and Madison Realty Capital (MRC).
First, we reported back on the results of some air testing that North Brooklyn Neighbors, in collaboration with our partners at NYU Langone Health (~4:30) and also reintroduced a community health survey we are asking community members to take in order to better understand the effect the NuHart site has had on the health and well-being of community members (~13:20).
MRC presented on completed and upcoming work on the site as well as quickly outlined some of the efforts underway to capture the offsite contamination (~22:20). The DEC then explained further about the off-site recovery of light non-aqueous phase liquids aka LNAPL aka phthalates (~29:25). A copy of DEC slides are below:
