Comments on EPA’s Proposal to Keep Ozone Standard
In August 2020, the Environmental Protection Agency, after a statutory review of the National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) for primary (health-based) and secondary (environment-based) ozone, proposed retaining current standards.
North Brooklyn Neighbors submitted comments to the proposal urging the Agency to strengthen the standards in order to more fully protect the health of humans and our ecosystems.
In our comments, we write: “It is impossible to consider air quality without looking at the state of our country today.” From North Brooklyn’s high rates of asthma-related hospitalizations to the wildfires in the western U.S., we have seen how the current ozone standards do not protect our most vulnerable. We advocate that the EPA prioritize our health and strengthen these standards!
