North Brooklyn Bag Swap 2022
In 2020, we ran a reusable bag drive and in 2022 we are doing it again! Throughout the month of June, we are partnering with local institutions and businesses to collect your new or gently used (and clean!) reusable bags. In 2020, we redistributed bags to local senior centers, food banks, libraries, NYCHA community centers, and confused shoppers who were unprepared for the plastic bag ban and we plan a similar distribution in 2022.
Since March of 2020, plastic bags have been banned at most establishments, though exceptions do exist. These exceptions include the use of plastic bags for wrapping uncooked meat, seafood, or poultry, used for takeout or food delivery, bags for laundry (such as dry cleaning), prescription drugs, among other exemptions. If you see an establishment that you think may not be following the law, you can report them here.
The public is welcome to drop by any of the locations below to donate during the month of June.
Crest Hardware – 558 Metropolitan Ave (between Union Ave. & Lorimer St.).
